‘Adding life to days when days cannot be added to life’ encapsulates the approach given to the care and support offered to children with life-limiting conditions and their families who use the services at Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

The labyrinth forms part of a large deck with bench seating sheltered by a timber pergola, all installed by The Labyrinth Builders.

On discovering a labyrinth for the first time children will often race around the circuits, take short cuts, jump from path to path and generally do their own thing in a rather more exuberant and energetic spirit than adult walkers.

That sense of fun is reflected in the design of the Labyrinth. Bright elementary colours snake along the walls and offer two additional routes around the labyrinth.

The four posts rising from the labyrinth challenge the children’s ability to keep on the coloured paths while allowing easier passage when walking in a conventional manner.

For those children at Demelza House who are unable to walk or run, the scale of the labyrinth is such that the whole pattern can be seen in its entirety and the different paths followed by eye.
